Artist statement

Making art is a meaningful process inspired by everyday life.  I love to bring the seen and unseen into form using color, shape, figure, narrative, and whimsy.

About

Best of Show for a group of ceramic figures: 2026 AWS Apple Blossom Show

Sandi has a BA in Art Studio from Sonoma State University 1984, with an emphasis in drawing. She was primarily influenced by classes in ceramics with Kay Armstrong, and monoprints and mixed media with Inez Storer.

After college, under the name "DruBy Woo”, she created and sold whimsical ceramic figures at the Valley Ford View Finder, Bodega Landmark Studio, Quicksilver Mine Company and Wild Things in Sonoma County and at Virginia Brier Gallery in San Francisco.

In 1989 she designed a set of ceramic stones called “Lightstones” that represent different spiritual qualities. She marketed and sold them to New Age gift stores all across the country. She made and sold the Lightstones for 16 years.

In 2010 she pursued her childhood love and started painting with acrylics. In 2021 she joined the Art Workshop of Western Sonoma County (AWS) which has been a source of support and inspiration. Currently she’s painting abstracts, figures, and making the whimsical ceramics.

Sandi uses color and form as a means of emotional and spiritual expression. Her work, whether vibrant paintings or whimsical sculptures, serve as a window into our collective human experience.. She creates art that invites the viewer to contemplate the deeper meanings of life, connection, and the human spirit.

In 1989 Sandi created "Lightstones", which are hand sculpted and hand painted ceramic stones, each representing a different spiritual quality.
